Food Network star Duff Goldman faces a challenging recovery journey after a recent accident involving a drunk driver. Goldman, known for his culinary expertise, shared what happened on Instagram, expressing gratitude for surviving the crash.
In the post, Goldman revealed that he was on his way home, contemplating a cake for his daughter Josephine’s birthday, when a drunk driver veered into his lane.
“On my way home from the airport I was thinking about what kind of cake I was going to make for my daughters [sic] birthday,” Goldman shared alongside a photo of his heavily bandaged hand. “Next thing I knew I bleeding and surrounded by airbags. A drunk driver had swerved into my lane on a windy country road.”
The pastry chef, 49, thanked his “lucky stars” that his only injuries appeared to be on his hand and that he was still able to celebrate his daughter Josephine’s 3rd birthday even though he would no longer be able to bake her cake.
“I’m fine, but it’s gonna be a long road to recovery, and for someone like me who makes a living with my hands you can imagine that this is no joke,” he continued.
“There’s no excuse for driving drunk. None. Uber, taxi, call a friend. No excuse. Stay safe friends, count your blessings. If you’re drinking don’t drive, and if you’re driving, don’t drink.”
The “Cake Masters” and “Ace of Cakes” star’s wife, Johanna Goldman, shared in the comments section that Josephine called her father “tough” and added, “We love you sweet muffin. We’re happy you’re home safe.”
Goldman further told People that he was a passenger in the head-on collision. The Charm City Cakes owner, his driver, and the allegedly drunk driver all survived.
“My daughter almost didn’t have a dad because this guy was stupid,” he shared. “There’s so many ways to get to where you need to go at the touch of a button, you can get a ride to anywhere you need to go. There’s just no excuse.”
Goldman elaborated on his injury, explaining that his dominant right hand was crushed and required stitches. He is also waiting on a specialist to confirm next steps.
“It definitely doesn’t work,” he said of his appendage, “and I need it to because that’s all I got.”
Though his injury may interfere with Goldman’s ability to make cakes, he wasn’t coming back to “Ace of Cakes” no matter what. Check out the video below to see why.
